It’s All Relative is a unique group exhibit of new oil and watercolor paintings by three local artists who are all related. Sisters and oil painters Jacqueline Tedeschi and Katherine Diaz-Saavedra and their cousin, watercolorist Angela DeLaura will show original paintings and mixed-media pieces. And, although related, each artist’s work is vastly different from the others.
The artists have deep roots in the New London Connecticut area, where their ancestors settled after immigrating from Sicily in the late 19th century. Their gift of creativity and determination comes from a long line of strong women who welcomed challenges.
Angela DeLaura, from Westerly RI, is an accomplished interior designer and uses her design background to create balance in pieces like “Summer in the City” and “Footloose” which is a love letter to her daughter in dreamy neutrals. She is also an accomplished furniture painter.
Katherine Diaz-Saavedra’s “Nine Days Away” and “Arboretum Dusk” depict impressionistic views of Connecticut College Arboretum pond and Hygienic Art building, both located in New London, CT. Her paintings are moody and rich in color. Katherine lives in New London CT.
Jaqueline Tedeschi from Mystic CT, uses collage papers both new and vintage as a basis for many of her oil works, including “Lost Feather Found” and “Closer Look.” This creates texture in each painting and provides a curiosity which can be discovered and interpreted in many ways. Landscapes, streetscapes, abstracts and portraiture are introduced in this collection.
The artists welcome you to a reception Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:30-3:00 pm.
