The CarLeans are an acoustic-based quartet from Connecticut. It’s members include singer-songwriter/producer Jim Carpenter of Loco Dare Records and The Hoolios; Sarah MacLean and Rachel Sargent-MacLean — singer-songwriters and identical twin sisters, originally of the MacLean Sisters; and upright bassist, Corina Malbaurn.

Their simple onstage sound of acoustic guitar and bass is at once subtle and emotional, then explosive within the diverse rhythms of New Orleans funk, bluegrass, reggae, and Texas folk. They once earned a standing ovation opening for the Subdudes at Infinity Hall.

Equally notable is the vast repertoire of originals. Currently recording their fourth album, and drawing from an 85 song setlist of their compositions, The CarLeans’ song-list is as eclectic as their musical style: intimate, emotional ballads ala’ Ricki Lee Jones and Townes Van Zant; humorous, quirky and thought-provoking crowd-pleasers not unlike Randy Newman or Lyle Lovett; and driving, hypnotic grooves from Carpenter and Malbaurn with the MacLean sister’s soulful sibling harmonies inspiring the audience to its feet to dance. The quartet has performed throughout the country, sharing the stage with the likes of Mipso, The Birds of Chicago, Marcia Ball, Hooray For The Riff Raff, Walt Wilkins, Sarah Borges, The Wolff Sisters, and The Preservation Jazz Band . . . in such renowned venues as Daryl’s House CT, Ossipee Music Fest ME, Kate Hepburn Theater CT, Isis NC, Neutral Ground NOLA, The Southern TX, Skinny Pancake VT, Proclamation FL, The Narrows RI, Eugene O’Neil Theater CT, and Lulu’s AL as well as many others.
