Boundless Beethoven!
Beethoven | Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58 — Eva Virsik, piano
Beethoven | Symphony No. 9
The ECSO closes its 2026–27 season with a night devoted to the composer who changed everything. Beethoven! is a celebration of one of the most towering figures in Western music, and a showcase for one of the most gifted pianists on the concert stage today.
Pianist Eva Virsik joins Music Director Toshiyuki Shimada and the full ECSO for a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major. It is a revolutionary work that rewards every listener, from the first-time concertgoer to the lifelong devotee. Virsik brings both technical mastery and profound musical sensitivity to this beloved score. Her playing is luminous, precise, and deeply expressive, exactly what Beethoven demands and exactly what this concerto rewards.
Then Music Director Toshiyuki Shimada leads the full ECSO and Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, one of the greatest achievements in all of Western music. Written when Beethoven was completely deaf, the Ninth builds across four magnificent movements to its shattering finale: the setting of Schiller’s Ode to Joy, a choral and orchestral call for universal brotherhood that has moved audiences to their feet for two centuries.
Join us for a triumphant finale and a send-off that will leave you counting the days until next season!
