Satya Chávez (they/them) is an award-winning Chicago-based Latiné multidisciplinary artist known for their work as an actor, composer, sound designer, and live-looper. Acting credits include Real Women Have Curves: The Musical (American Repertory Theater), Where Did We Sit On The Bus? (DCPA, Steppenwolf, Marin Theatre Co., Cleveland Playhouse, Actors Theatre of Louisville), Romance Depot (Goodman), American Mariachi (Dallas Theater Center, South Coast Rep, Arizona Theatre Co.), Empanada (The Public SA), and others. As a composer, Chávez created Refuge, a border play that received an NNPN Rolling World Premiere, the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, and multiple Jeff Awards. Their original live-looping musicals include Where Did We Sit On The Bus?, Fruition (in development, Goodman), and The Olive Tree (in development, TheatreSquared). Other scores include Corduroy (Chicago Shakes), ¡Bernarda! and Memorabilia (Teatro Vista). For young audiences, Chávez co-created Brighter Futures (Paramount Theatre) and Seattle History Remix (Seattle Children’s Theater), where they are the company’s first Artist in Residence. Their work has been commissioned by Goodman Theatre, The Denver Center, TheatreSquared, Seattle Children’s Theater, and others. They are the inaugural recipient of the Jeff Impact Fellowship.
