Fabrizio Mocata is a Sicily born pianist graduated in classical music and jazz at Music Conservatory L. Cherubini in Florence. In 2000 he played Piazzolla music for the first time and he found in Tango his best way to express his poetics, now he is considered today one of the most innovative musicians in the tango scene.
Fabrizio’s last releases were published by Acqua Records in Buenos Aires, as “Swango”, “Cruzando Aguas” and “Tango y Vino”.
He was a special guest as pianist and arranger for the album “Inmensidad” by Sandra Luna that was nominated at “Premios Gardel”.
Since 2013 Fabrizio collaborates with the world famous tenor Fabio Armiliato, in 2016 they released the album “Recital Can Tango” (Alfa Music 2016), Fabrizio wasthe arranger and the musical director of the project where he combined Tango, Opera and Jazz.
This project was performed at many musical venues as Royal Opera House of Muscat, Opera Theater in Varna, Sala Paganini in Parma, Teatro Maipo in Buenos Aires, Sala Zitarrosa in Montevideo and many others.
Fabrizio currently collaborates with the Italian bass player Gianmarco Saglia and the world acclaimed drummer Paul Wertico (Pat Metheney Group), in 2013 they released the album Free the Opera!” (RAM records) where they rearranged in a jazz key Puccini and Verdi’s compositions. They performed in many Festivals like Blue Note Milano, Empoli Jazz, Gubbio No Borders, Beat onto Jazz Festival. They just released their second album named “Letter from Rome” – Alfa Music 2021. Fabrizio starts experimenting the combination of classical and jazz music since 2009 in the album
“Puccini Moods” (MM Records) recorded with the Italian famed drummer Ettore Fioravanti and Gianmarco Scaglia on bass. Another important Fabrizio’s release is “Letter From Manhattan” (Alfa Music 2015) recorded in New York with the George Garzone, Marco Panascia, Ferenc Nemeth.
He has been musical director for the projects “Recital Can Tango” with the tenor Fabio Armiliato, and “Tango Argentina” with the GD Tango company. Touring in Europe, USA, Argentina, Uruguay and South Corea.
His album “Tangos Cruzados” with the Argentinian musician Franco Luciani was nominated in the “Latin Grammy Awards” 2024.
