Stage Talk with Rick Koster

Where every show has something to say.

It’s frosty outside! Let’s watch a movie!

On Friday, January 16, we kick off our annual Breezeline Winter Cinema Series with a 7:30 p.m. showing of “One Battle After Another,” followed at 3 p.m. Saturday with “Blue Moon.” The series runs through March.

Here are some movies you won’t see:

“The Winter’s Tale.” “The Lion in Winter.” “Winter’s Bone.” “Winter Light.” “Johnny Winter’s ‘Macbeth.’”

The point is, don’t take this “Winter” thing too literally, at least in terms of a consistently frigid artistic motif.

Instead, the Breezeline series is designed to provide movie (and Garde!) fans with the chance to see more than 20 different superb and critically exalted films — all released over the past year — with the strategic aim of optimally experiencing them just in time for awards season.

Each Giant Screen viewing takes place in the snuggly warm, friendly, and popcorn-happy Garde Arts Theater, where the 4K digital projection and 8-channel surround sound make the filmgoing experience far better than, oh, ice-skating on iffy “frozen” ponds or tackling a black diamond ski slope possibly reliant on cheapy fake snow.

Oh, and there’s also a full array of time-honored movie-house snackage, soft drinks and beer and wine.

Bonus fun: Single tickets are a reasonable $15 or you can buy a season pass, good for one viewing of each film, for $82.50 — almost incalculable savings!

Finally, blues guitarist Johnny Winter never portrayed Macbeth.
