Stage Talk with Rick Koster
Where every show has something to say.
As Green as it Gets
Sometimes, methinks the Garde folks are too modest — which I can say because I covered the facility for 27 years before getting the opportunity to actually help out here by crafting in-house promotional material.
And in support of my observation, let me point to the March 16 concert here featuring epochal Irish folk group The High Kings.
Let’s put it in perspective. Having The High Kings play your venue the evening before St. Patrick’s Day is like:
- Santa stopping by your house Dec. 23 and personally reading “The Night Before Christmas” to your family
- Dracula entering your bedroom on Halloween Eve to … well, it becomes unspeakable
- Thomas Jefferson ringing your doorbell on July 3, 1776, to ask you to proofread “The Declaration of Independence” one more time before he takes it to the Pennsylvania State House the following morning for signatures
So, yes! The High Kings virtuosic, harmony-clustered delivery of centuries’ worth of Irish traditional music — with the wit and vision to move the artform into the future — is pretty much unique and special. If you can’t be in Ireland on March 16, the Garde is the place to be!
