Stage Talk with Rick Koster
Where every show has something to say.
Good ol’ hybrid country music,
Chris Janson-style
Chris Janson is a genuine and shining country music star whose six albums have already scored several platinum and gold singles including “Buy Me A Boat,” “Fix A Drink,” “Good Vibes,” “All I Need Is You,” “Done,” and “Drunk Girl.” He’s also one of the composers of Tim McGraw’s huge hit “Truck, Yeah!”
On Feb. 26, Janson brings his “Wild Horses: Untamed Tour” to the Garde, and it’s an excellent opportunity to experience a fine and visionary artist who’s channeling archival honky tonk music — Lefty Frizzell and George Jones — and blending it with the Drunken Frat Dude Country of Jake Owen and Luke Bryan.
Here’s a quick Chris Janson quiz to get you primed for what promises to be an excellent evening during which you can proudly park your F 150s — or horses — on State Street.
In the song “Buy Me a Boat,” Janson claims that, if he was rich enough to afford a boat, he’d fill the onboard cooler with …?
- Coors Light Silver Bullets
- Domaine de la Romanee Conti (because Janson prefers his wines from the village of Vosne Romanee in the Cote de Nuits region of Burgundy, France)
- Sticks of butter
In the song “Buy Me a Boat,” what kind of vessel is Janson jonesing for?
- A sturdy craft capable of salvaging the Titanic, which Janson wants to keep in his garage so he can tinker around on it and see if he can get it running
- The sort of ski/fishing boat one might see in a country music video in which attractive young people dart around the lake boozing it up
- The ninth-century Oseberg Viking War Ship currently on display in an Oslo museum
In the song “Buy Me a Boat,” Janson jokingly (we hope) wishes for the death of what relative, and how does it fit into a rhyme scheme?
- “A rich ol’ aunt / the one who wrote a book about philosopher Immanuel Kant”
- “A rich ol’ uncle (who’d) kick the bucket / And (I’d be) sittin’ on a pile like Warren Buffett”
- “My evil cousin Tate / I could cut him up and use him for fish bait!”
The correct answers are A, B and B. How’d you do?
No matter what your score is, we suspect you’re gonna mightily enjoy Chris Janson.
