Summer on Stage Session Two: Treasure Island

Follow young Jim Hawkins and his friends as they sail a dangerous sea of adventure with Long John Silver and his pirate band at the helm when the Missoula Children’s Theatre and over 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic novel TREASURE ISLAND.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. MCT’s mission is the development of life-skills in children through participation in the performing arts. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.
The tour team arrives with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an audition and casts the 50-60 students enrolled in the Garde’s Summer On Stage each week, each weeks show is an original adaptation of classic children’s stories that you know and love. The show is rehearsed throughout the week culminating in two public performances on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
