Welcome to The Garde Arts Center

Southeastern Connecticut’s non-profit center for the performing arts, cinema and education, the Garde Arts Center is nationally recognized for its restored historic facilities and its inventive programming.

Located in the heart of downtown New London, the 1400-seat Garde Theater, built in 1926 during the golden era of motion pictures and vaudeville theatres, is one of the few remaining historic movie palaces in New England. Its restored Moroccan interior of and expansive lobbies and function spaces provide a very audience-friendly multi-purpose theatre venue in a warm and beautiful atmosphere.

Celebrated for its acoustics, the Garde presents and hosts contemporary music, comedy, touring Broadway, symphony, opera, and specialty live performances, as well as film festivals and special screenings on its giant screen with its newly installed digital cinema and surround sound system.

In addition to the theater, the Garde Arts Center owns a complex of adjoining historic buildings which include the 110-seat intimate Oasis Room and the Garde Gallery, comprising an “arts block” of creative enterprises.
